Lester Holt: An Award-Winning Journalist with a Distinguished Career

Early Life and Career

Lester Holt was born on March 8, 1959, in Marin County, California. He began his journalism career at KCRA-TV in Sacramento, where he worked as a reporter and anchor. Holt later moved to WBBM-TV in Chicago, where he covered major stories such as the 1987 Iran-Contra affair.

NBC News Anchor

In 2000, Holt joined NBC News as a correspondent for Dateline NBC and NBC Nightly News. He became the anchor of Weekend Today in 2003 and later became the weekday anchor of NBC Nightly News in 2015. Holt has also hosted several special news events, including the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 presidential election.

Awards and Recognition

Holt has received numerous awards for his journalism, including the Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Silver Baton Award and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Live News Coverage. He is also the recipient of the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.
