FEMA Responds to Vermont Flooding, with Help from Middlebury Alumnus

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is Responding to Vermont Flooding

FEMA is responding to the flooding in Vermont caused by heavy rains that began on Monday, August 8th. The agency is providing assistance to state and local governments, and is working to ensure that affected residents have access to food, water, and shelter.

FEMA has deployed a team of disaster response specialists to Vermont, and has set up a Joint Field Office (JFO) in Montpelier. The JFO is coordinating the federal response to the flooding, and is working with state and local officials to identify needs and provide assistance.

Middlebury Alumnus Helps with FEMA Response

Middlebury alumnus David Rothman is a FEMA Corps member who is currently deployed to Vermont to assist with the response to the flooding. Rothman is a graduate of the Middlebury College Environmental Studies program, and has worked with FEMA for two years.

Rothman is currently working in the JFO, where he is helping to coordinate the deployment of FEMA resources to affected areas. He is also working with state and local officials to identify needs and provide assistance.

FEMA Provides Assistance to Flood Victims

FEMA is providing a variety of assistance to flood victims in Vermont, including:

  • Financial assistance for temporary housing and repairs
  • Food and water
  • Medical care
  • Mental health counseling
  • Transportation assistance
  • Child care assistance

FEMA is also working to ensure that affected residents have access to information and resources, and is providing technical assistance to state and local governments.
