Southern California Experiences Three Earthquakes

Recent Seismic Activity

In the early hours of Monday, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded approximately 22 miles from Bakersfield. Later that same day, a stronger magnitude 4.1 earthquake occurred in California's Central Valley, causing tremors in Bakersfield.

A third earthquake, this time a magnitude 5.3, struck about 185 miles southwest of Bakersfield on Tuesday evening. This quake was felt across much of Southern California.

Following the magnitude 5.2 earthquake in the Bakersfield area, at least 38 aftershocks have been reported. In the past 24 hours, there have been 211 earthquakes with a magnitude of 1.5 or greater, and 212 in the past 7 days. The number of earthquakes in the past 30 days stands at 228.
